Classroom Timer
A big visual timer for the board: the coloured disc shrinks as time passes, so pupils who can't read a clock yet can still see how much time is left.
Time is up
Keys: Space start/pause · R reset · F full screen · M mute · Esc stop alarm
For a projector or smart board: pick a time, press Full screen, then Start. The disc goes from green to amber when a quarter of the time is left and to red in the last tenth.
Ways teachers use it
- Transitions: "tidy up before the disc is gone".
- Independent work, reading and quiet time.
- Group rotations and stations.
- Think-pair-share and quick-write prompts.
- Tests and timed practice questions.
- Turn-taking and brain breaks.
Tips for the classroom
- Choose Soft for a calm end, or Beep if the room is noisy. None gives a silent, visual-only end.
- Use +1 min for "one more minute" without restarting.
- Press the space bar to pause during an interruption.
- Save your usual times with Copy link and keep them in your lesson slides.
Questions and answers
Can pupils see it from the back of the room?
In Full screen the disc fills most of the screen height, and the time is shown under it in large numbers. How readable it is depends on your screen or projector size.
Does it need an account or install?
No. It runs in the browser on a classroom computer, tablet or phone, with nothing to install and no sign-in.
Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. TimerNook works out the time left from your device clock and a fixed end time, not by counting ticks, so a background tab is still right. While a timer runs, the page also plays a tone too quiet to hear, so the browser keeps the tab awake; your browser may show a speaker icon on the tab. If you also tick "Notify me", you get a system notification at the end.
Will the alarm ring if my phone screen locks?
Not always. Phone browsers can pause web pages when the screen locks, and an iPhone on silent can mute browser sound. Keep the screen on; while the timer runs TimerNook asks the browser to keep the screen awake where that is supported. If the page was paused, the alarm rings as soon as you return.
